Building for slopes and clay
Most Atlanta lots slope, and almost all of them sit on red clay. Clay holds water for days after a storm, then bakes hard in August. A patio laid on it without a proper base will heave, and a wall with no drainage behind it will start to lean. Plants put in before the grade is fixed end up with their roots sitting in water.
So a typical project starts with grading and drainage, then the stonework, then planting.
One team from plan to planting
You work with one company for the whole yard: design, permits, stonework, drainage, lighting and plants. You don’t have to coordinate a mason, a landscaper and an irrigation company, or sort out who is responsible when water ends up against the house.
What you can expect from us
- A site visit where we measure and check slopes, soil and drainage before we quote
- A written, itemized quote, with a scaled plan for larger projects
- Permits, HOA paperwork and Georgia 811 utility marking handled for you
- Plants chosen for Georgia heat and clay
What we build
Most yard projects need more than one of these. A new patio usually needs drainage, and a new wall needs planting around it, so we plan them together.
Hardscaping
- Patios Pavers, flagstone and bluestone on a base built for clay.
- Retaining Walls Block and stone walls with drainage, engineered when tall.
- Walkways & Steps Front walks, garden paths and steps that stay level on slopes.
- Fire Pits & Fireplaces Wood and gas fire features built into the patio.
- Outdoor Kitchens Grill islands and full kitchens with gas, power and water.

- Planting & Sod Trees, shrubs and new lawns, planted in prepared soil.

Common questions
Do you offer free estimates?
Yes. We visit the property, measure, and send a written quote at no charge. Call us or use the form below to set up a time.
What areas do you serve?
Intown Atlanta neighborhoods such as Buckhead, Midtown, Virginia-Highland and Grant Park, plus 16 nearby towns including Sandy Springs, Decatur, Marietta, Roswell and Alpharetta. The full list is on our service areas page.
Do I need a permit for a retaining wall in Georgia?
Usually only for taller walls. Georgia’s residential code exempts retaining walls 4 feet tall or less, measured from the bottom of the footing, as long as they don’t hold back extra load like a driveway or a slope above. Some cities add their own rules, and stream buffers apply to walls of any height. We check your city’s rules before we design.
When is the best time to plant in Atlanta?
Fall. Cool air and warm soil let roots settle in before summer heat, so most trees and shrubs do best planted from October through early spring. Warm-season sod such as Bermuda and zoysia goes in best from late spring through summer.
Can you work on steep or wet yards?
Yes. Slopes and drainage problems are most of what we do. Terraced walls, regrading, French drains and dry creek beds can turn a yard you can’t use into one you can.
